Room Rentals

CRS Healing Room CRS offers a home to many practitioners and teachers of the Healing and Creative Arts, including meditation and spiritual study groups, psychotherapists, physical therapists, acupuncturists, reiki and yoga instructors, shiatsu and thai yoga practitioners, dance and theatre artists, etc. Please note that we do not rent to Swedish/oil massage therapists. We also host non-profit meetings and receptions, film screenings, performances, and small weddings.

Our 2nd-floor loft, conveniently located just south of Union Square in Manhattan, is newly renovated, clean, comfortable and filled with great energy. We've used zero-VOC paint and organic curtains, state-of-the-art dimmable low-energy/low-heat LED lighting, energy-efficient A/C with ionization individually controllable in each room, and even super-effecient yet super-effective bathroom appliances. Our lobby is decorated with ever-changing contemporary art. And both of our studios are blessed with lots of beautiful natural light.

We clean every day and put lots of love into maintaining a comfortable, welcoming, healing environment for everyone who comes.

We offer lots of classes, workshops and events ourselves, but whenever we are not using our facilities ourselves, we make them available for Hourly, Day, Evening & Weekend Rentals.

The space now has somewhat soundproof walls, individually controlled air conditioning in each room, a 2nd bathroom, an enclosed studio, a larger therapy room, and an additional studio/healing room (in the front by the windows).
Use of massage oils and lotions, incense, candles, and heated oils are strictly prohibited!

Sat 10 am – 6 pm

Extended weekend evening hours are available for special event bookings (workshops, performances, receptions, lectures, film screenings, etc.). We can also open earlier on weekends for workshop bookings or all-day rentals. Rentals of three hours or more and rentals outside our regular hours require a non-refundable 50% deposit.

If you are interested in booking space for the first time, you will need to first make an appointment (call our front desk at 212-677-8621) to come in for an orientation. Thereafter, you can email rentals AT crsny DOT org or (faster) call the front desk to check availability and book space.

New CRS Therapy Room

We are happy to share our clean, comfortable Therapy Room (10' x 10') for one-on-one consultations or energy healing work, or small group (up to 6 people) meetings.

The room is furnished with a faux leather love seat, three small tables, CD player with iPod dock, air conditioning, and dimmable lighting. We can also supply additional chairs to suit your needs.

THERE IS NO LONGER A MASSAGE TABLE IN THIS ROOM.
Use of massage oils and lotions, incense, candles, and heated oils are strictly prohibited! SMOKING IS ILLEGAL AND PROHIBITED!

New CRS Healing Room CRS Healing Room curtains

The CRS Healing Room (12' x 23') is the perfect studio for lectures or meditation groups of up to 20 people, private and semi-private yoga or dance classes of up to 8 students, thai massage or shiatsu, acting rehearsals, even small film screenings. Nicer chairs and end tables can be brought in to make the space usable for psychotherapy sessions as well. The soothing natural light from the large windows can be attenuated with translucent curtains or blocked out with our green black-out drapes.

The room is equipped with A/C, CD player with iPod dock, small tv with vhs player (and composite video input), yoga props, massage table, folding chairs, and mirror (which can be covered with a curtain). Various tables or a portable ballet barre can also be provided.

To use our massage tables, you must either bring your own sheets to cover the tables or purchase our disposable sheets ($1) and headrest covers ($.25).

The CRS large Studio (36' long, width varies between 18' – 23') is an attractive and flexible space usable for a variety of events, from lectures for up to 50 people to yoga classes for up to 20 people, dance classes (up to 16, or 10 at ballet barre), film screenings, readings, chamber concerts, etc.

The Studio is equipped with A/C, dimmable lighitng, mirrors on two walls (which can be covered with white or black curtains), ballet barres on one wall, sound system, HD video projection system, folding chairs, yoga mats, blankets, blocks, straps and large Pilates ball. Various tables can also be provided as needed. In the day time, diffuse natural lighting streams in from two large skylights and fresh air is available from a window in the back.

No shoes or food are allowed unless the vinyl dance floor is rolled up (this takes three people and a couple of minutes time). No candles, incense or burning oils are allowed either.

Large Studio Rental Fees

Screen your film steps from Union Square on high-quality equipment with seating for approximately 40. Enjoy a post-screening Q&A or reception. Catering options are available upon request.

Screenings without Reception:
$40/hr (This is the regular studio rental rate.)
Attendees will need to remove their shoes before entering the studio and no food/drinks are allowed inside.

Screenings with Reception/Catering:
$100/hr
If you wish to hold a reception and serve food and/or beverages, then we require that you rent the whole Center and roll up the vinyl dance floor (like a large carpet) in the studio (which requires two people provided by the renter to assist the CRS staff person) at the start of your rental, clean up very well and mop/sweep the floors at the end of your rental and then put back the vinyl dance floor.

A second, SD Epson projector is available for multi-projector events.
Oppo Blu-Ray player (plays Blu-Ray discs and up-converts DVDs to 720p)
Da-Lite 87" x 139" Model C ceiling-mounted projection screen
PA system for excellent 2-channel sound.

You must designate someone to be your event coordinator (that can be you or someone in your party) who will be responsible for working with us to ensure that your event goes according to plan and remains on schedule.

If you wish to allow street shoes or food/beverages into our Studio, then you must, under our supervision, roll up our vinyl dance floor prior to your event and restore it at the end of your event. This takes several people and several minutes.

CRS has 50 folding chairs, six rectangular folding tables and several smaller tables available for your use. You will be responsible for setting them up and putting them away unless you specifically contract CRS to provide this service.

The renter will be held responsible and charged for any damages to CRS property.

Art Exhibition in CRS Studio

The entire CRS facility (Lobby, Healing Room, Therapy Room, Studio, Kitchen, and bathrooms) excepting the office may be rented for special events such as music recitals, dance and theatre performances, studio showings, readings, etc.

You will have be able to use the CRS sound, lighting and video projection equipment.

Base Fee (2-hr minimum, includes one receptionist provided by CRS):

$100/hr starting one-hour before your curtain/performance time (or whenever you start using the light board/theatrical lighting, which ever comes first) through the time that everyone leaves
$15/hr ($40/hr on weekends) for any additional set-up or rehearsal time

Optional extras:

Additional staff (for setup, serving, lighting or sound, etc.) can sometimes be provided for $15+/hr per person or you can provide your own

CRS has 70 folding chairs, six rectangular folding tables and several smaller round tables available for your use. You will be responsible for setting them up and putting them away unless you specifically contract CRS to provide this service. For film screenings or dance or theatre, it is often not possible to fit more than 30-40 chairs in without leaving you with too little performance space or making it too hard for some of the audience to see. For lectures and music concerts, you can conceivably seat 60 - 70 though.

The renter will be held responsible and charged for any damages to CRS property. Please see the rental rules for additional regulations and restrictions.

1) Do I need to schedule an appointment to come see your facilities?

It’s best to call in advance and schedule a specific time in order to view the space as the rooms might be in use and we might not be able to show you the space at that time.

2) How do I reserve a Room?

Call CRS at 212-677-8621 or email us at rentals@crsny.org. During our business hours, calling is probably the best way to reach us. Our reception has only one line and we have only one receptionist (who has many responsibilities), so if the line is busy, please try back in a few minutes, or if your reach our machine, leave a message.

3) What deposit is required to book a room?

A 50% deposit is required to book the Studio or to book full days in any of the rooms, or sometimes to book multiple dates. Otherwise, no deposit is required.

4) When is my balance due?

Your balance is due immediately following the conclusion of your rental.

5) What hours/days is CRS available for booking?

10am – 10pm Mon – Thur, 10 am – 9:30 pm Fri, 10 am – 6 pm Sat, 10 am – 10 pm Sun
Additionally, we rent out space outside these hours for special events like receptions, all-day workshops, film screenings and performances.

6) If I rent a room to provide therapy to my client, do I need to provide my License or Certificate?

No. So long as you do not break the law or our rules, bother anyone at the center, or damage our property, what you do during your rental time is your business. We are simply renting you a room. However, we do strongly recommend that you not practice any form of therapy without a license if one is required as you could get in trouble. We reserve the right to refuse to rent to anyone we believe is breaking the law or our rules or who is causing problems.

7) Does CRS host or sponsor workshops/events/artists?

We occasionally do, but when we do, we usually initiate the project, and it is usually a curated arts event. You should not expect that we will host your event. We probably do not have the capacity to provide sufficient advertise or attendees for your event.

8) Who will set up and break down my room & what is the clean-up policy?

You should expect to do the room set-up & break down. You must do all of your set-up and clean-up during your rental period (and you must be for that time as well) because you may not be able to get into the space early and another event may be taking place immediately after yours. See the Rental Rules for more info.

9) If we arrive early, is there a place for us to wait?

We have only a small lobby, usually with seating for only 2– 4 people, so please do not arrive more than 15 minutes early and ask your clients not to arrive too early either. There is a nice cafe, Think Coffee, beneath us, and another one, Paradis, across the street, where you can wait more comfortably.

10) Do you have showers?

No. We have two small bathrooms (and a small kitchen) but no shower. If you need to change clothes and another room is open, we don't mind if you change there.

11) Will you provide a receptionist for registration at my event?

Our receptionist manages registration for own own classes and events, but you must manage your own registration and payment collection for your rental event. We do not have enough change to make change for your clients. There is a bank across the street and multiple ATM machines are on our block.

12) As a renter, may I hang or tape things on the walls or floor?

Nothing is to be placed on the walls without explicit permission from CRS staff. In any event, nothing can be put up early or left up after your event and no marks or damage to the facility may be left.

13) Can I move the furniture?

In the Therapy Room, you may move the tables and chairs but not the sofa, which is fragile. In the Healing Room and Studio, you may arrange tables and chairs as you wish so you long as you are careful not to cause any damage to the floor, walls or furniture itself.

14) Can I provide food or alcohol for my event attendees?

Serving food and drinks is only allowed with explicit permission from the CRS staff and only if you clean up very well and remove all garbage yourself (you cannot leave it at CRS or outside on our sidewalk). No food or drink (or than water) is allowed in the Studio unless the vinyl dance floor is rolled up. Alcohol may not be sold or served to minors and no events that envision or encourage more than nominal consumption of alcohol are permitted.

15)Do you have massage tables?

We have three massage tables. There is no extra fee to use them, but you may not use one of our massage tables without covering it, and we do not allow the use of any massage oils or lotions or anything that might leave a residue. If you are holding a workshop, you may not be able to use all three tables as someone may need a table in another room.

16) Do you provide blankets/sheets for massage tables?

Yes. We sell disposable, paper sheets for $1 and headrest covers for $.25. We do not have towels or cloth sheets.

17) Will CRS help promote my event?

You must do your own promotion, but as a bonus for renting our space, we will consider putting your event information in our website calendar if we think it fits and you email it to us in a timely manner. We also provide limited space for business cards and flyers (of postcard or tri-fold size) in our lobby. Priority goes to materials for our own events and for upcoming events at CRS. You must design your own flyers. We do not have room to do it for you.

Note: Do not count on our promotion as your only means of promotion or you will likely be severely disappointed in your turnout. You are still responsible for spreading the word and word-of-mouth is MUCH more effective than flyering or sending emails to strangers.

18) Can I drop off materials for my event in advance or have then delivered?

We have extremely little storage space so probably not, but if you are having a larger event, you can ask us.

19) Do you have an elevator or handicap access?

No. It's an old, small building with only a staircase. We are one short flight of stairs up. Please do not try to get someone in a wheelchair up the stairs (which are also somewhat narrow). Baby strollers are hard enough.

20) Do you offer storage space for regular clients?

We have very limited storage space and it is unlikely at this time we could accommodate your request.

21) Can I bring my bicycle up?

No, there is nowhere to put one.

22) My event includes drumming / loud music / loud release work. Are your rooms soundproof?

The rooms are somewhat soundproof but not fully, so we need to know the type of work you’ll be doing in order to consider whether it is viable. If your sound bothers anyone else working at the center, we will require that you turn it down or stop what you are doing.

23) Is CRS air-conditioned?

All three rental rooms have their own A/C remote controls and heaters.

We work hard to maintain the center’s “good energy” so that everyone can enjoy it. We try to enforce our rules in the same way with everyone, strictly and fairly. Please help keep the Center clean and practice love and respectfulness toward other visitors and staff of the Center and add to that “good energy”!

WHO MAY RENT SPACE?
★ CRS rents space to therapists, doctors, energy/holistic healers, bodyworkers (who do not use oils/lotions/creams/incense), meetup groups & nonprofits, instructors, dance (excluding tap) and theatre artists, filmmakers, meditation groups, etc.
★ CRS does not screen renters to determine their competency or licensing.
★ CRS is not liable for any injury incurred by a client during the course of a session or
class with someone who is simply renting space from CRS.
★ All rentals are to be booked by and fees paid by the therapist/teacher/organizer and not by that person’s client(s) or student(s).
★ CRS will cease to do business with anyone who disregards our rules or detracts from the energy here.

NOISE LEVEL
★ CRS is somewhat soundproofed but it is small.
★ Please take care to speak quietly in the lobby and not to disturb other healers.
★ Please do not shout or play music too loudly or we will kindly as you to be more quiet.

MASSAGE TABLES
★ A massage table is available for use in the Healing Room and in the Studio (but not in the Therapy Room)
★ You must cover the table in order to use it, either with sheets you have brought from home or with a paper sheet ($1) and headrest cover ($.25) that you may purchase at the CRS front desk.
★ No oils, lotions, or creams are allowed. We only allow dry massage and body work.

CLEANING AND ROOM CARE
★ Your setup and cleanup time must take place during your scheduled rental.
★ CRS Staff may assist you with setting up tables, chairs, etc. IF they have time.
★ Do not leave any garbage or belongings in the room after you have finished. It must be completely nice and ready for the next renter or teacher.
★ Renters will be charged for any damages, whether damaged by your or your client(s).

STORAGE AND ITEMS LEFT HERE
★ CRS provides no overnight storage.
★ CRS takes no responsibility for any belongings left at CRS.
★ Small articles found here (such as scarves, hats, jewelry, sweaters, etc.) may, at our discretion, be kept temporarily in our Lost & Found basket.
★ Food or beverages left behind will be discarded immediately.

PROHIBITED ITEMS
★ Incense, candles, open flame, smoking, and burning oils are completely prohibited.
★ Massage oils and lotions and any substances that may leave a residue are
completely prohibited.
★ Food is completely prohibited in the Studio unless prior arrangement are made to put away or cover the vinyl dance floor.
★ Street shoes are prohibited on the Studio vinyl dance floor.
★Items, substances, and activities prohibited by law are, of course, prohibited.
★Weapons are prohibited.

RENTAL TIME PERIODS AND FEE COMPUTATIONS
★ You will be charged for the entire period that you have reserved space, even if you start late or finish early.
★ Please finish on time!
★ If you occupy a room longer than you have reserved it, then you will be charged for that additional time as well. You are considered to be occupying your room as long as you or your client is in it and until it is ready for the next renter to enter.
★ We schedule and charge in 15 minute increments. If you go 8 minutes over, we will charge you for an additional 15 minutes of time.
★ If you overstay your reservation past the time that someone else’s reservation is to begin, we will interrupt your session and ask you to vacate the room immediately.

CANCELLATION / NO-SHOW POLICY
★ Renters who fail to show up or who cancel less than 24 hours before the scheduled start of their rental will still be charged 50% of the rental fee.
★ If your client fails to show up, we will only charge you 50% as long as you do not occupy the room for more than 50% of the time you had scheduled. If you remain in the room, we will charge you the full rental amount.
★ Late fees must be paid before you may reserve or use any of the rooms again.

DEPOSITS
★ A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to book any room 3+ hours in a day or to book space outside of our normal operating hours or for parties or performances. Otherwise, no deposit is required.

ONGOING RENTALS
★ CRS will not rent out space on an ongoing basis for more than two months at a time unless the Renter signs an Ongoing Rental Agreement, which stipulates a more strict cancellation policy. Ask for details.
