“The Wheel of Earthly Life” is a story of a human life from the beginning to the end as we feel the connection between each stage of life and the cycles of each season on the earth. Enjoy an evening of a minimalistic solo dance theater that brings you the struggle, pathos, humor, and solemn moments of human lives, as we remember that the same seasons will return to the earth regardless of each of our life struggles. A new wave of Japanese interpretive dancer, Tadashi incorporates Japanese Butoh, American modern dance, and mime.

We kick off the program with a screening of the documentary "Crazy Sexy Cancer." "Hip and humorous, intimate and empowering, this cutting-edge documentary shatters old stigmas with the force of spirit, redefining what it means to truly live – not just for those struggling with cancer, but for anyone who needs a personal revolution." Following the screening we’ll lead a discussion about the connections between physical and spiritual healing.
Next, we'll introduce you to several of our professional artists-in-residence: physical theatre improvisation artists Heather Harpham and Cassie Terman and choreographer and dancer Akiko Furukawa. These artists possess a heightened awareness of their deepest impulses as well as the creativity to transform and integrate those impulses into an aesthetic framework art and the honesty and guts to share the result as art.

Our celebration wouldn't be complete without nourishment for the body as well. The most healthy, life-sustaining food we know of in New York is lovingly prepared at Caravan of Dreams. Alkaline, organic, kosher, vegan, live or cooked, the food from Caravan is divine. Their chef is the first in New York to embrace the dietary principles of Dr. Robert Young's phMiracle, which also plays an important role in "Crazy Sexy Cancer" and in the healing journeys of many people. We think you will find that these foods you will be learning about can be delicious, too!

Leap Year (Performance)
Friday – Saturday, June 20–21, 2008 at 8 PM
CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) Presents
An Evening of Dance & Physical Theatre Improvisation by
Nina Wise with Annie Kunjappy
In Leap Year, award-winning SF artist Nina Wise and long-time collaborator Annie Kunjappy attempt to ride the surging crest of the precarious present, fueled and beleaguered by memories of the past, seduced and inspired by the imagination of the future. In this work, narrative emerges from a robust physicality. It's dance, it's word jazz. It is accessible, exciting, unpredictable, and miraculously relevant to the issues of the moment. Leap Year will feature both solo and duet work.
"You leave a Nina Wise performance uplifted, as if you've seen something fresh, moving and above all deeply human." — Ashland Tribune
"Simply being in the same room with this consummate improviser for a couple of hours is to watch the unknown unfold before your eyes. .. I was deeply moved and entertained ... Wise distilled something of the complexity of living in today's world into something bizarre, brave and beautiful." — SF Weekly
"Annie Kunjappy is freaking marvelous..." — The Well Nourished Moon, San Francisco
