Action Theater˜ is an improvisation training which integrates the kinesthetic intelligence of dance with the emotive nature of acting. It offers performers a structured physical theater form in which to play with abandon, helping students access imaginative impulses, expand expressive range, and build ensemble awareness. Action Theater’s goal is to develop performers who possess the vitality, sensitivity, and daring instincts of talented improvisers, and who can translate those qualities into any creative work they undertake.

Heather Harpham is a Senior Teacher in the Action Theater form who has been teaching improvisation for over 10 years. She has offered Master Classes at Sarah Lawrence College, Oglethorpe College, the Susan Marshall dance company, and, most recently, at the ATHE conference this year in New Orleans. As a founding member of the Action Theater Ensemble (originally from California), she has performed widely on both coasts. Her solo theater pieces have been presented in venues throughout NYC, including Judson Church, Dixon Place, One Dream Theater, and Brooklyn Arts Exchange. Heather holds an MA and an MFA, in theater and creative writing respectively, both from NYU.
