Undulate like waves…swirl and spin like the wind…speak of fleeting feelings with fingertips…shimmy and shimmer like fire… Belly dance is not just about your belly! It is a dance for your whole body & spiritual being.
Notes from the instructor:
Before I met belly dance (a.k.a. Oriental or Middle Eastern dance) I had been trained for many years in ballet, jazz and modern dance. Yes, I love all types of dance, but I have been especially fascinated by the fluidity, generosity and freedom of this dance form. It allows me to continuously find elements about myself that I didn’t know, and to tell stories in a way that I haven’t been able before. It is like soaring in the sky, or swimming in the wide, big ocean…. Hey, it’s even given me tight abs that I always dreamed of!
This class focuses on:
• Well-structured isolation techniques that give you a wide range of physical vocabulary you never knew you had
• Lyrical & musical interpretations and expressions that allow you to “speak freely and spontaneously” when you dance
Beginners welcome! The class is designed to build your dance vocabulary from the basics, gradually expanding to specific phrases. The very purpose of this class is to HAVE FUN! Already familiar with other dance forms? You will also find the techniques quite useful, as well as the handling of rhythms unique to Middle Eastern music. It is also a great opportunity to expand your improvisational skills.
