Soundproofing
Here is a good look at the new layers of flooring that have been put down to block out the noise and smell from the coffee shop below us:
At the bottom is the tin ceiling of Think Coffee. Above that there is about 10" of air and the beams that support our floor. Across those beams are the planks of our old floor. The floor is torn out here where they are going to install a ceramic tile entrance way.
On top of our old floor, they have laid a vapor barrier, a layer of 3/4" plywood, a thick layer of foam rubber, and another layer of 3/4" plywood.
They have actually started laying the finished maple hardwood on top of that. I'll show that in the next picture.
